Project Overview
Essential Question: How do we help others find joy in nature?
We are all connected to each other and the land around us. Our fourth grade classes strengthened our love for nature by learning about different habitats in San Diego and by learning about San Diego’s past. Through hiking and work with local experts, we worked on a fossil display and a website to help share our connection with nature. Our goal is to encourage others to have positive interactions with nature and in turn, build awareness and an appreciation of the natural environments in San Diego.
We made posters and a website for people to see the work behind what we did and to share our learning. Our website includes a blog of our reflections about our experiences in nature along with photos, information about fossils, a fossil video game, and our work with paleontologists, plant and animal interactions, and an Imovie capturing some of our fieldwork.. For our second product, we designed a fossil display outside of the science room to share the fossils we excavated so others can learn about fossils.
Student Reflections:
“This project taught us about nature. We all have a deeper connection with nature.”
“We know about native plants and fossils. Fossils tell us how the world changed over time.”

Why our work is important?
Our work is important because we are teaching people about nature, how to take care of it, and that trees give us air and give animals homes and food. If some one came and built a store at lake hodges, they would be killing animals and using animals food to sell as human food, and they would be killing all of the trees and plants so we wouldn't have as much oxygen and we wouldn't be giving animals a place to live or hide from predators. What is the purpose of this website? The purpose of this website is teaching people about nature, telling them what we know, telling people not to kill plants because most plats give us oxygen or food. We want to tell you specific things we learned in our project. We had fun hiking when we went to Lake Hodges and Elfin Forest and also at Lake Hodges we had a ranger take us on the hike and teach us more about nature. We hope our website helps you find joy in nature! |
